Guadix dates back to Phoenician and Roman times. Pictured is the Cathedral in the center of town.
The most interesting feature of the Guadix area however, is that hundreds of people live in caves. The scenery is magnificent views to the snow covered Sierra Nevada, rich red and brown irregular shaped hills with protruding white chimneys under which the Troglodytes (cave dwellers) live.
The Troglodytes are very friendly people and don't be surprised if you are invited in to have a look around. The caves can from vary from sparse and spartan to luxury marble floors, fitted kitchens, faxes and internet connections.
