Gibraltar has a protected deep water port. This light house faces the Mediterranean and the port is on the other side of the peninsula.
What we found surprising is that in excess of 30,000 people live on Gibralter. During the blockade by Spain, their only access was by sea and by air. There is a rather short runway on Gibralter with one flight daily from England.
When we trying to get through customs, after an hour and a half wait, we finally got through. We started on our way and were stopped again. But this time a jet landed right in front of the bus. The highway into Gibraltar actually crosses the runway.
The Spanish influence is definitely evident in the town itself.
