All About Spam

I just found this terrific site that tells you just about everything you need to know about spam.  They have a discussion group, a newsletter and all kinds of references and resources.  They seem to be dedicated to helping Cyberspace become spam-free through informing people as to the legalities.  Until running across this I didn't have a clue that you could be fined or even put in jail for spamming.  Please note, I have never practiced spamming - realized it was too risky - but having the knowl edge is great.  Now when I get spammed I send them a remove note and include the link to this site asking them if they realized that they could be fined or jailed for spamming.

Thanks Betty Ann - Washington and California spammers can be sued for damages in civil proceedings, but cannot be prosecuted criminally.  Sanford Wallace, aka the Spam King, owner of (Cyber Promotions) was ordered by a judge last year to pay $2 million to Internet service provider Earthlink for spamming.

What is interesting is that the State of Virginia (home of AOL) has introduced legislation to make this a criminal offense.  Since this abuse is so rampant, I would imagine that other States will follow suit in the future.

While it is a good idea to send spammers your warning, unfortunately many of them use forged headers in their E-mail and if you do send them a note, it is returned as undeliverable.  This will most likely be illegal as well.

 Online Patent Auction

A Pasadena, Calif. company called Patent & License Exchange, or PLX, plans to launch an Internet-based auction for patented intellectual property. The site, which will debut this summer, will capitalize on the growing business-to- business market that many analysts expect will eclipse the online retail market. Credit Swiss Re Group will develop a package of patent validity, infringement and enforcement policies for the PLX site, and Chicago Title Insurance will provide patent escrow services.  There are currently more than 600,000 patents available for sale, with an additional 265,000 coming on the market every year.

 ******** Ladies and Gentlemen********
 "Start Your Engines!"
  By James Groves

How do you start your engine each day?  Do you treat your engine like you're a race car driver and give it only the finest, high quality, high octane fuel?  Or do you run it close to empty and tell yourself "I don't have time this morning to fill up. I'll do it later."

A good, health breakfast will have an impact on your level of energy for the entire day.  Recent studies have shown that both teens and adults are more alert and productive than those who skip this most important meal.  In fact, eating breakfast can help with weight control because those who skip breakfast are more likely to overeat at the next meal or snack between meals.  If you're passing up breakfast to flatten that tummy, you're on the wrong track.

I personally enjoy breakfast, it's one of my favorite meals. I stop each morning about 9:00 and I have either oatmeal with whole wheat toast or once in a while I treat myself to a real southern breakfast.  This breakfast would include grits (fiber), one egg, a biscuit with jelly (not butter) and one cup of coffee.  This is my fuel to start my engine for the day.

Here are some quick, easy to prepare suggestions for adults and children.  Start your day with oatmeal.  I'm suggesting an instant kind which I know isn't as healthy as the slow cooking, but if time is short, it's better than nothing. Complete this meal with fresh squeezed carrot or vegetable juice (which you can do the night before) or fresh fruit and include a bagel or whole wheat toast.  I suggest you use the fruit spread instead of butter.

Another suggestion would be whole grain cereal, with fat free or skim milk, and fruit or juice.  Also yogurt mixed with raisins or diced fruit is a favorite with kids.

Whatever you choose, make breakfast the first fuel stop in the morning.  If you missed our healthy juice recipe from last week we'll be happy to send it along to you.
