Internet Tip of the Week
by Bob Osgoodby

Positive Cash Flow

It doesn't matter how great your product is or how wonderful your service, if you don't have customers, all you have is a skill, or a product. People don't go into business normally as a hobby, although a lot of hobbies do turn into a business. The trick however, is to turn it into a positive cash flow to realize your goals. If you're serious about doing business, you must plan for the long run. Successful businesses don't normally just happen. They are the result of long hours of planning, and a great deal of work.

There must also be a "war chest" of funds available until a positive cash flow is achieved. One of the major problems that many encounter when starting up, is that they overextend their financial resources. No matter what your business, or how it is run, you must be able to meet current bills when they come due. Every business has its peaks and valleys. During the Holiday Season for example, retailers have their peaks. Other businesses may suffer however, but even during the "lean" times they must still meet their monthly obligations.

The pundits may argue that the economy is what causes turmoil and business failures. A business that does fail however, most likely has overextended themselves, to the point that their cash inflow wasn't enough to cover their expenses. When their "war chest" was depleted, they were gone. How does this affect the small entrepreneur? Can we learn a lesson from this?

Let's examine a program that the average person can get into. Affiliate-Marketing is the current "buzzword" for Multi-Level-Marketing, or M-L-M for short. This got a bad rap over the past six or seven years, due to the scamsters that abounded. A number of companies were founded that were simply "Ponzies" in disguise. The majority of their cash inflow was the result of signing up new members. When the cash flow from new recruits dried up, so did the investment of those who had joined.

Are there legitimate companies out there - sure and many have a great track record. They don't rely on attracting high priced recruits, but have a legitimate product or service that they offer. If you are going to get involved in one of these companies, that should be a major concern.

So - assuming you found such a company, it is time to investigate the feasibility of you going into business with them. They provide the product or service, and you must set yourself up in business. Here is where the cash flow comes into play.

Can you afford the monthly amount you pay them? Can you afford to promote your relationship with this business without immediate income? If the answer to either question is "no", you'd be well advised to reconsider.

If the answer is "yes", how are you going to promote it? Most companies recommend you exhaust your "warm market" first. Your "warm market" is your circle of family and friends that you might convince to join in with you. Eventually however, you are going to exhaust this market and must start seeking people outside that circle.

One way to attract new people is in the online arena. While this will not replace the "face to face" contact that is necessary, if it is done correctly, it can add a valuable source of additional income.

Many people make the mistake of using a web site supplied by their company. While this can be a valuable tool, it really ties you into their product. If you get your own site, you can use it to highlight your offerings. It is of course necessary to advertise your web site, and ezines and newsletters usually give you the best return on your investment. With a modest investment on your part, you can realize a decent return.

Usually, for less than a few hundred dollars, you can get a web site and advertise in ezines targeted to your potential market. Most people can afford this without counting on their cash intake to cover the expenses. Determine what you can spend out of pocket to make something like this work. Then, as your cash flow improves, expand your advertising to include a broader market.  While this is a modest start, it doesn't put you in the position where you must realize income to make expenses. Above all be patient and realize it will take time and effort to realize your goals.

In The News

Apple Disputes Reported Drop In Itunes Sales

Apple Computer has dismissed a report from Forrester Research that said sales of iTunes music fell 65 percent in the first half of 2006. Forrester arrived at that estimate by analyzing the buying habits of its consumer panel of nearly 2,800 people.

Although data from other market research firms also suggests that sales of online music are flat or falling, Apple said Forrester's estimate of iTunes sales was "simply incorrect." Although Apple would not give specific numbers, it did say that the iTunes Music Store saw a profit in the third quarter of 2006.

Meanwhile, sales of Apple's portable music players, the iPods, remains brisk. Apple said that in the third quarter, it sold 8.5 million of the devices, up 35 percent from the year before.

5 Reasons Why You Can't Create Your Own Information Products
by Dan B. Cauthron

What is there that prevents you from creating and marketing your own exclusive information products?

Chances are, it could be one or more of the self-defeating reasons that we commonly hear from those who contact us seeking advice. Several of those reasons are addressed here. We intend to debunk the validity of each and every one.

Reason #1 - I Can't.

Can't isn't even a word! It's a contraction of the words can not. Those are the two most self-defeating words in the English language, or any other language that they may be translated to.

Think of it this way. In the first stages of all our lives, we really could NOT do much of anything. Mother or Dad, or someone else, had to do everything for us. But all of us, as we grew, LEARNED to do things for ourselves.

Our human ability to learn is what sets us apart from the beasts of the field and forest. Take advantage of that miraculous gift. After all, do you think that the world's most successful people were born knowing everything they know today? Of course not!

Reason #2 - I Don't Have a Good Idea For an Information Product.

As the Internet itself is in a constant state of flux and metamorphosis, so do new problems and new needs arise constantly. Therein lies a hotbed of potential for new solutions and new information to be disseminated.

Consider your own needs and problems as an Internet user. Believe it or not, there are untold numbers of other people worldwide who are experiencing the same situations. It behooves you to do some research, find solutions to your own problems, and then help others to fulfill those needs.

Now, think about what specialized knowledge you already have. Practically everyone has experience and insight that others will happily pay for. Natural human curiosity motivates us all to want to know what others know, and the range of topics is limitless. What you know is worth money to many other people.

Reason #3 - I'm Not a Good Writer.

Have you ever written a letter to a friend? Do you communicate with others through email? Then you can write. Whether or not you think you are "good" is not an issue here. After all, we're talking about creating an information product, not winning a Pulitzer Prize.

Begin with an outline or framework of the major points you want to convey. Next, add sub-topics as needed to elaborate your point. Then, begin filling in the blanks with the information and knowledge that you have on each point. Even the great novelist James A. Michener was known to use this mechanical approach.

Even the best writers in any venue compose their works in rough draft. Editing, punctuation, and grammar correction comes later, and is typically relegated to someone else who has an eye for such work.

Final editing can be easily accomplished by contacting the English department of a local high school or college. You may also do an online search for the keywords "editing services" or "ghost writing" to get professional assistance.

Reason #4 - I Don't Know How To Compile The Product.

eBook compiler software is readily available for as little as $20 US, and since their advent a few years ago, they have come a long way toward being user friendly. Besides, this is actually the most simple of all the steps in generating your own eproduct. Good ebook creation software abounds on the Internet, allowing you to have a ready to market product in as little as thirty minutes.

If you prefer to seek professional help at this stage, do an online search for the keywords "ebook compiling services." You will be presented with several options to investigate.

Reason #5 - I Don't Know Where or How To Sell The Product.

This is not a valid reason either. The Internet itself is an information driven medium. Most Internet users come online seeking one thing only . . . information. Your job will be to present your product in the right places when those people come looking for the information.

Untold numbers of volumes are available on the Net that deal with the topic of ebook and information product marketing.

So you see, there is actually nothing standing in the way of you creating and marketing your own eproducts, except your own fears, or your own failure to recognize your own natural abilities. Begin right now by saying 'I CAN.'

A Little Humor to Start the Week

Why the Little Angel is at the top of the Christmas Tree ...

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

On Christmas Eve Santa Claus was getting ready for his annual trip.  As he pulled his favorite pair of red pants on, they ripped.  So, he had to take them off and put on another pair, which was a bit too tight.

He then went to check on the rest of the preparations.  The elves were on strike.  The reindeer had shin-splints.  At this point, Santa was BUMMED.  He went into the kitchen to take a calming drink, and the bottle was EMPTY.

Now he was really mad.  All of sudden, there was a knock at the door.  Santa, in his angry state, ignored it.  There was another knock.  Santa was in no mood for all of this. When the knock came again, Santa--filled with rage--threw open the door.

Standing there was a little angel who said, "Hi Santa!  What do you want me to do with this Christmas Tree?"

-----

I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked.

She replied, "I knew I should have replaced  the battery in this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery for this?"

"Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?"  I asked. "No, just this remote 'thingy,'" she answered, handing it and the car keys to me.

As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries ... it's a long walk."

-----

One evening, in a busy lounge in the deep south, a reindeer walked in the door, bellied up to the bar and ordered a martini. Without batting an eye, the bartender mixed and poured the drink, set it in front of the reindeer, and accepted the twenty-dollar bill from the reindeer's hoof.

As he handed the reindeer some coins in change, he said "You know, I think you're the first reindeer I've ever seen in here."

The reindeer looked hard at the hoofful of change and said "Hmmmpf. Let me tell you something, buddy. At these prices, I'm probably the last reindeer you'll see in here."

-----

After being away on business for a week before Christmas, Tom thought it would be nice to bring his wife a little gift.

"How about some perfume?" he asked the cosmetics clerk. She showed him a bottle costing $50.

"That's a bit much," said Tom, so she returned with a smaller bottle for $30.

"Thats still quite a bit," Tom groused.

Growing disgusted, the clerk brought out a tiny $15 bottle.

Tom grew agitated, "What I mean," he said, "is I'd like to see something real cheap."

So the clerk handed him a mirror.

Something to Think About
By Jan Tincher

Do you want to make a change in your life?

Decide that, for the next two weeks, you are going to take full control of your thoughts.

Decide now that you won't indulge in or dwell on any unresourceful thoughts or emotions for two full weeks.

Decide now how you are going to feel at the end of the two weeks, make a picture of yourself being successful in your mind. Keep that picture right in front of your mind every time you take a break, every time you think of what you are going to do in the next two weeks, every time you say something that endorses your new behavior.

Decide now how, in two weeks, you are going to celebrate that you made a goal and you stuck with it.

Here is an article that may help, *6 Steps To Making A Big Change*.  You can find it here:
