Hazy, Lazy Days of Summer
by Bob OsgoodbyWarm-weather months are a fun and busy time. It's time to cleanup the barbie, plant your flowers, and maybe take a trip to the beach. The cold weather is gone and the lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us. It just seems that so many things have been added to our plate, we have little time for anything else.
But wait! Does that include the business you have worked so hard on during the winter? Unfortunately for some it does. It's like the race car driver, who speeds around the track and gets a lead of his competition, but then decides to coast the last few laps. Guess what - he is going to be passed.
A lot of people virtually take the summer off from their online business, and this is an opportunity for you. While they are taking 2 steps back, you can leapfrog over them and get the customers they might have gotten.
This is not a new phenomenon, and is as old as the web itself. Online business typically slows down during the summer months. But who is slowing down? It is usually those who work the web part-time in the evening. Now when it gets dark early, this is easy. But when the days are longer, it seems there just isn't enough time to do everything else, and also take care of business.
If you are serious about developing your online business, you must have the discipline it takes to continue. It's awfully easy to think you'll get it done tomorrow, but unfortunately, your customers will not wait for you to get motivated.
Rose Hay sums it up beautifully in her ads. She says "Remember, an Opportunity Doesn't Go Away, It Just Goes To Someone Else." How true - here is someone who has her act together, and will capitalize on the inaction of others.
Now is the time to renew your marketing efforts. Can you combine those lazy, hazy days with a renewed effort? If you can, the lost opportunities of others might just come your way.
Might you slow down a bit? Sure, if you do it right, and remember your short term and long term goals. Maybe you should investigate advertising in publications you hadn't tried in the past. You should consider running multiple ads with different copy in the ones you are already using. How about using an auto-responder in those ads. This will ensure you get back to an inquiry right away, and you can do the follow-up at your leisure.
Why not put a form on your website(s) to handle inquiries? Through the use of checkboxes, you can immediately categorize your potential customers requests. By using a mail package such as Eudora, you can automatically respond with a "canned" response that is tailored to their request.
Will some of your prospects also be running at a slower speed? Of course, and this is why you must redouble your efforts.
Don't forget that thousands upon thousands of new prospects get web access every day. They are hungry for information, and might just be looking for the type of opportunity you offer. These "Internet Newbies" are like a fertile field that you can harvest during the summer. Bitten by the prospect of earning money on the Net, they are viable candidates that you will lose if you don't vigorously pursue them.
I know that with press of things we have to do it is easy to slack off. Much of your competition will succumb to those "Hazy, Lazy Days of Summer", and if you take advantage of their inactivity, you just might be pleasantly surprised at the results.

More Consumers Turning to Legal Music Services
Growing numbers of U.S. consumers are using legal online music services, making them viable competitors to peer-to-peer (P2P) services, which are typically rampant with illegal file sharing, according to research firm NPD Group.
NPD data indicate that Apple's iTunes music store ties for second on a list of the most-used online music services, even with LimeWire and just behind WinMX. Other legal services Napster and RealNetworks's Rhapsody placed seventh and ninth on the list, which also includes such P2P services as Kazaa and BearShare. Isaac Josephson of NPD pointed out that, aside from avoiding the risk of prosecution, legal online music services offer several advantages over P2P networks, including convenience of finding what you're looking for and knowing that files you download do not contain spyware.
These factors, coupled with the threat of legal action for copyright violations on P2P networks, make paying for music online an attractive proposition, according to Josephson.

3 Instant Traffic Techniques for Mini-Sites
by Anik SingalWhen building websites there are two main options: large content site or small mini-sites. Large content sites are normally more "information" focused. Mini-sites, however, normally have one purpose only, to sell.
Given what search engines want, large content sites are much better for getting search engine traffic. Most of the time (unless you're excellent at optimizing), it's hard to get mini-sites to rank well for competitive keywords.
This is why most do NOT rely on search engines for traffic to their mini-sites.
In all honesty, the best strategy is to combine the two types of sites by having a large content site to rank well with search engines that feeds traffic to your mini-sites.
However, not all of us have the time or know-how to easily build large sites that do well with search engines. Most of us just want to put up a small site and start making money.
Here are the 3 traffic generating techniques I use everyday for traffic to mini-sites.
#1: Forums/Discussion Boards
I have made more than $6,000 from one mini-site just by targeting it to the right forum in my signature file. All I did was leave a nice statement in my signature file; in 1 month I attracted over 5,000 targeted visitors that converted to over $6,000 for me.
The basic strategy here is that you need to find related forums and become active in them. Get yourself known, find out what those members talk about and find an affiliate product to fit their demand.
Then, make a nice, simple, yet captive site with a great headline followed by a review of the product. Test it and if it pulls well, you have a winner. If not, choose another product.
#2: Ezine Advertising
I would rate ezine advertising at the second best way to gather traffic to your mini-sites only because this technique can cost some money. Forum promotions have no cost (typically). However, ezine advertising can provide much better results.
Forum marketing requires you taking the time to make sensible responses or asking good questions. However, with ezine advertising, you just write a good promotion and let the publisher send it out.
An advantage of ezine advertising is that you know before you promote that you have a targeted audience that has already expressed an interest in your topic.
Also, the subscriber and the publisher most likely have a good relationship (considering the subscriber has not left) and so your promotion comes with credibility and may get more attention.
One of the keys to doing well with ezine advertising (for me) has been repeated ads in the same ezine. I have found that my results are best in the second of third promotion. However, if I get no results on my first mailing, I do not repeat that ezine again.
Warning: Not all ezines are the same. Some will be major winners and others will be major flops.
#3: Directory Sites
Alright, here is the controversial technique that I use very successfully. I know, I know, some of you will think that it is "wrong" - but in the end, my job is to teach you how I get my traffic; that is exactly what I am going to do.
Directory sites are sites created by software that automatically build you a site which is 500 or more pages. These sites are just simply uploaded to a domain name. Most (if done right) tend to do well with search engines. That traffic is then forwarded to your mini-sites.
As you can see, we're holding fast to our policy of building a funnel system where we use the large sites to bring in the "no cost" search engine traffic (which is also highly targeted). However, all the "selling" takes place on our mini-sites.
Large sites = Traffic Gathering Mini sites = Conversion Into Sales
Obviously there are many more techniques to use to attract traffic to your mini-sites such as banners, pay per click, link exchanging, etc... I just wanted to discuss the top 3 that are the easiest to implement and require the least learning curve (in my opinion).

Biz-Tips
by Kevin NunleyTwo Top Reasons Marketing Fails
Ads sometimes don't work. There are a lot of reasons why this happens, but more often than not, we can point to two downfalls that seem to hurt marketing.
Problem one is your ad isn't clear to the people it is talking to. Most of us have words and phrases we use in our industry that make little sense to our customers. Strive to put your ideas in plain everyday language. If you have an industry buzz word, translate it into words everyone uses.
Just as often, the one important benefit that will make people buy gets lost somewhere in the copy. Often when I get a long email message from someone, they'll have the important part in the next to last paragraph. Someone in a hurry wouldn't find it.
Problem two is marketing frequently isn't pointed at the right people. One guy who wanted to recruit members for his MLM opportunity advertised in the daily newspaper. Lots of people read the paper, but very few were interested in network marketing. He would do far better to put his ad in a networking publication or ezine that specializes in his target audience.

A Little Humor to Start the Week
Michigan Fishing Trip
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=A friend, driving home from a fishing trip in northern Michigan with his boat in tow, had engine trouble a few miles inland from Lake Huron. He didn't have a CB radio in his car or a cell phone. So, he decided to use his marine radio to get help. Climbing into his boat, he broadcast his call letters and asked for assistance.
A Coast Guard officer responded, "Please give your location."
"I'm on Interstate-75, two miles south of Standish."
The officer paused, "Could you repeat that?"
"I-75, two miles south of Standish."
After a longer pause, an incredulous voice asked, "How fast were you going when you hit shore?"

During a visit to the mental hospital, a visitor asked the Director what is the criteria that defines a patient to be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask the patient to empty the bathtub"
Okay, here's your test: (Those with an abnormal tendency will scroll to the bottom to get the answer before even taking this test!)
1. Would you use the spoon? or
2. Would you use the tea! cup? or
3. Would you use the bucket?"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would choose the bucket as it is larger than the spoon or the cup."
SCROLL DOWN
Yes, further down
"Noooooo," answered the Director. "A normal person would pull the plug.(You are not required to tell anyone how you did on this test.)
-----Down at the Veteran's hospital, a trio of old timers ran out of tales of their own heroic exploits and started bragging about their ancestors. "My great grandfather, at age 13," one declared proudly, "was a drummer boy at Shiloh."
"Mine," boasted another, "went down with Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn."
"I'm the only soldier in my family," confessed vet number three, "but if my great grandfather was living today he'd be the most famous man in the world."
"What'd he do?" his friends wanted to know.
"Nothing much. But he would be 165 years old."

Feedback - Q&A
Hi Bob,
Love your tips, can you please speak more on how you do what you mention at the end of today’s tip. The fact that you have two identical hard drives.
I have asked several computer people only to be told it can't be done.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Shaay Menay
www.healthfavorites.com-----
Shay – there are two ways you can do this. The first is to have a “mirror drive” which writes the same information to both drives at the same time. While this provides excellent protection in the event of one drive failing, it does not protect against software corruption. If corrupt data is written to one drive it is mirrored on the second. In my computer, I have two 80GB drives from the same manufacturer – physically they are identical – one is drive C and the other is drive D. On both drives I have all the set-up programs necessary to reinstall my software in the event of the failure or corruption of either drive.
On a regular basis, I backup drive C to drive D - to do this, go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools and select “Back up”. If drive C becomes corrupted, it is a simple matter to restore the information from D to C using the same System Tool which allows you to either backup data or restore it. Of course, you would have to replace drive C and reinstall Windows on drive C first.

Answer to Riddle
If I have any daughters, there will always be two statements which are true. Therefore, I have no daughters.
Something to Think About
By Jan TincherDo you forget easily?
Is it night time and you realize you can't remember what you've done all day?
Here’s one way to remember:
Visualize an imaginary clothesline in your mind.
Now, let's say you baked a cherry pie and went to the library that day.
The first thing on your clothesline, under the first clothespin, is a pie and the cherries are falling out. You baked a cherry pie.
Under the next clothespin is a book and you can see on the open pages the pictures telling what the book was about -- you went to the library.
What else did you do today? Make a visual representation of it. You'll be surprised how much this helps you.
If you are at work, maybe you will want to visualize an 8 hour calendar. In the first hour square, maybe you'll see a report you did framed in heavy gold -- you did good.
The second, a meeting where the boss patted you on the back and said *Good job!*. Your meeting with the boss turned out great!
What did you do the third hour? Make a visual representation of it. Be creative. Enjoy your day -- and know that at the end of it, you'll remember everything you did!
P.S. This can also work for trying to remember what you want to do! Simply, in the morning, look at the clothesline of things you want to do or the 8 hour calendar of things you want to Accomplish.
