Rejection
by Bob OsgoodbyMuch of the "hype" concerning affiliate programs centers on the anonymity of the web, and that you won't have to have a "face to face" relationship with your potential clients. Let the autoresponders do the work, have the money deposited in your bank account while you sleep, yatta, yatta, yatta.
People want to do business with people. If you're in sales, and can't stand "Rejection", you're in the wrong business. Trying to market something online, does not shelter you from this either. People will contact you and not buy into your offer.
Worse yet, you don't even get any contacts. If this is happening, you might want to ask yourself why. Many people will simply "quit" and write it off as a bad experience. Those who succeed find out why.
The first axiom of marketing is that people want to do business with people. If their only contact is with an affiliate page, that may or may not bear your name, they will most likely "click on by". Ask yourself - would you do business with someone you never heard of, know nothing about them, and who you have no way of contacting?
Letting people know about you is one of the strongest statements you can make about your business. If you give a short background on yourself, with appropriate contact information, they most likely will have the necessary confidence to proceed. I have full contact information on my website, including a telephone number they can call in the event of a question or a problem.
Now you might think that giving your phone number to the world, is going to result in a lot of "bad things". Not true! In our 11 years of doing business on the Internet, I have never had a "crank" call - never. I post the hours that people can call, and receive very few calls outside of that time frame. After hours, I turn on the answering machine and give them the hours I'm available. I suggest a broadcast type of message which doesn't allow the caller to leave a message.
Now the majority of people will never call, but will use the email channels provided instead. The presence of a telephone number however, goes a long way in allaying their concerns. I don't recommend an "800" number, as people will think twice before spending their own dime to call. I also give a mailing address, and no, we haven't been visited by "stalkers".
Another nice touch is to include your photo with your Bio information. As they say, "it's always nice to put a face with a name". The more you can establish a personal bond with your potential buyer, the greater your chances of success.
The second axiom of business is to learn from your mistakes, and correct the things that you are doing wrong. During the Second World War, when a young group of pilots in the RAF were fighting for their lives in the air over England, they would often be hit by enemy fire. Their engine would start to misfire causing it to make knocking noises. Thus was coined the phrase "every knock is one step closer to home". They had a great attitude.
We can take a lesson from them. If you can determine why your offer is being knocked or rejected by your potential clients, the closer you will get to attaining your goals. Rejection is common in business, and even the largest companies do studies on every ad campaign they conduct to make them better.
A simple statement on your web page to encourage feedback can go a long way, but don't be discouraged by some of the remarks you will receive. No matter how crude some may be, they are being triggered by something, so don't take offense. Now while I normally advocate the use of a form for sending information from a website, here I do not. Let them be automatically transferred by use of the "mailto:" command to their email account to write the message, as you will then know the return address is valid.
Yes, they may wish to remain anonymous as well, but the use of a form in this instance, which simply allows them to vent, will serve little purpose. You really don't want to be influenced by some bored grade schoolers with nothing better to do.
Follow up to all the legitimate replies you receive to find out why they have reservations. Just this process alone may swing them into your camp. Rejection is not always bad, and if you use it properly, it just may go away.

In The News
New York Files Suit Against Marketing Firm For Spyware
New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has filed suit against California-based Intermix Media for installing spyware on millions of computers.
The marketing company, which conceded that previous owners indeed distributed spyware, is accused of violating state laws concerning false advertising, deceptive business practices, and trespassing. The state is seeking injunctions barring the company from distributing any more spyware; an accounting of revenues the company realized from the spyware; and fines of $500 for each act of installing spyware. A statement from the company said that it voluntarily stopped installing spyware recently and that no personal information was ever collected with the secretly installed software.
The statement hinted at trying to reach a settlement with New York, a resolution that observers said is a typical outcome of situations like this one.
Taxes ~ A Certainty of Life
by Benjamin PratnerThe biggest expense that an individual has is, payment of Taxes, and not the mortgage or the credit card payment as we are made to believe. Taxes play a major role in our every day lives. We pay taxes in different ways as a salaried person a part of your salary is deducted as tax, as a consumer we pay a different taxes and so on.
You may remember the first time you leant about taxes as a child at school, and wondered why people should be taxed on things. Now you are an adult but still don’t understand why you are taxed so much and how. But the fact remains that the economy is based on taxes and we will have to continue facing them.
So what different types of taxes are there? Well, there are a lot of them. Some examples of types of tax are alcohol tax, cigarette and tobacco tax, corporate tax, estate and trust tax, fur tax, individual income tax, insurance tax, legal gambling tax, property tax, mortgage tax, sales tax, energy tax and withholding tax. Of course there are more but these are a few examples.
There are federal taxes and there are state taxes, and you have to pay taxes at different levels. You must have noticed that when you purchase something from a store you pay more than the listed price, as it has to be taxed. At places where income tax is not charged, the sales tax is much higher to compensate for it. States that levy sales tax sometimes give a refund or discount at the end of the year when you file your taxes with the IRS.
Your taxes are regularly deducted from your salary when you work for a company or business. How much is deducted depends on your salary and the number of people dependant on you. If you are self-employed you still pay taxes but you calculate them differently. Some people try to avoid paying tax by not showing any income, but that can get you into trouble if you are audited by the IRS and you may end up facing huge fines and a jail-term.
If you need to clarify your doubts about taxes and why you have to pay them, surf the net for information. The IRS website explains many things to you and also replies to your questions by phone or e-mail. They have a section on frequently asked questions, which can be very helpful. Where tax is concerned, don’t hesitate to clarify doubts about something that is such an important and expensive aspect of your life.

Biz-Tips
by Kevin NunleyHow to Get Testimonials
Nothing sells products and services like good comments from past customers. Prospects believe the word of a customer long before they'll buy into even the best written ad or most lavish TV commercial.
But how do you get good testimonials, especially if your business is new?
1. Nobody says YOU can't provide the testimonial. If you have personally used the product you are selling and truly believe it's the best thing since sliced bread--put that in a testimonial. Put your own words in quotations.
2. Get someone who is a recognized name in your field to say something good about what you sell. Let them mention their own interest in the testimonial. This is why blurbs on book covers go, "Best book I've ever read," Joe Blow, author of How to Get Rich. Joe lends his good opinion as a way to get a mention for HIS book.
3. Put up a comments form on your web site. Clearly mention that some comments may be selected for display on your site or in your promotional literature. Some people will say good things (which I sure they mean sincerely) just to get their name in print.
4. Always include the person's first and last name along with the city they live in or the business they work for. Otherwise, people will think you made up the testimonial.

Quote of the Day
"The Internet is a great way to get on the net."
- Bob Dole
A Little Humor to Start the Week
Ladies Tees
=-=-=-=-=-=Harold and Gertrude had been married for fifty years and played golf together every Saturday.
One day while out on the course, Harold said to Gertrude, "Honey, there has been something bothering me all these years that I'd like to get off my chest before I die. You remember when we were first married and I had that pretty young secretary working for me? Well, I had an affair with her. But it was only one time, that was many years ago and I have been faithful to you ever since."
Gertrude replied, "Harold, there is something bothering me which I need to tell you. Three years before I met you, I had a sex change operation."
Harold was visibly shaken and could only reply, "Honey, how could you have never told me this? . . . and all these years you've been hitting from the ladies tees!!"
-----
"You think so much of your game that you don't even remember when we got married," complained the wife.
"Of course I do honey," the husband said. "It was the day after I sank that 40-foot putt."
-----
An older gentleman is on a golf green about to putt out, and a foursome is behind him, waiting for him to finish. Suddenly, on the road alongside the golf course, a shiny black hearse pulls into view, followed by an entourage of some fifty vehicles.
Immediately, the man takes off his hat, places it over his heart, and stands at a respectful silence until all fifty cars have slowly passed. He then puts on his hat, taps his ball into the hole, and walks to the next tee.
The members of the foursome are impressed, and, when they catch up to him, say that it has been some time since they have witnessed such a display of respect and dignity.
To which the older gentleman replies: "It's the least I could do ... on Monday we would have been married fifty years!"

Something to Think About
By Jan TincherDo you make mistakes?
Instead of thinking about all the mistakes you've made, how about if you figure out the *types* of mistakes you've made? No doubt you'll find there is a pattern. Patterns can be changed. If you find yourself saying, *I always do this!* and it's not what you *always* want to do, change it.
Knowledge is power, but not until it's applied. Use that knowledge to your advantage. Change your *mistake* pattern. Feel the power!
